Features

PHP

The DataTank is written in PHP, a widely-used general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for Web development and can be embedded into HTML. PHP is used in many open source projects such as Drupal and WordPress. Just like those projects we want to build an active and diverse community of people from all over the world which makes PHP an obvious choice.

Open Source

The DataTank is distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (or “GPL”), which means anyone is free to download it and share it with others. By using this open development model we strive to create a large developer community to make sure The DataTank is a state of the art platform supported by people whole over the world.

Multiple input formats

Our current beta release supports CSV, XLS and SHP file formats which are the formats that are used the most by Open Data portals all over the world. Start turning this raw data into a RESTful Data API now!

Multiple output formats

Currently The DataTank supports multiple open standards such as JSON, XML, RDF, N3, CSV. In a future release we will also support Geo Formats such as KML and GML.

API Documentation

We have a RESTful API package TDTInfo which contains some resources describing the current state of your instance. With the package you can for example request all the available resources in your instance TDTInfo/Resources or request instructions on how to delete or create new resources TDTInfo/Admin.
